Closing a period prevents any new journal entry (or edit, or void) with a date on or before the period end from being posted. Reversing entries for voided transactions post in the current open period, preserving audit trail without mutating closed history.
Unlock is intentionally not exposed in the UI — it would undo a date boundary you've already handed to your CPA.
